‘Computer Games limit a child’s imagination’. Do you agree with this statement?

In this modernised and sophisticated era, the world around us has evolved to become highly dependent on technology. Today, games have revolutionized to exist in both digital and visionary forms. They are the catalyst for improvement of our young minds, enabling them to further expand their knowledge and thinking capacity. This said, I feel that computer games do not necessarily limit a child’s imagination; they can further bring out the creativity in the child.

Computer games exist in many forms. They can be either educational, for fun or leisure, strategic or even economical. While it is clearly seen that the former is beneficial, some would question the worth of the latter three. That computer games are utterly useless, however, is a mere common misconception shared by many people both young and old today. Games are programmed in such a way that children would be able to ‘work’ their brains more thus increasing the greater use of imagination. This is clearly seen when children will have to activate their brains to a greater extent in order to pass through several obstacles to advance to the next level, or stage, of a game. An example would be that of the game ‘Runescape’ where children enter an imaginary fantasy world where tasks and assignments are handed to them to be completed within a certain time limit. A child can both enjoy and also use their imaginations to solve problems at the same time. Now, is that not killing two birds with one stone?

Computer games are visual in nature. They exist as a complex and innovative form on the screen. As it is known that the brain works in accordance with the eyes, and that the former does all the processing while the latter provides all the information, children’s imaginary powers would be leveled up due the frequent need to process what the eyes sees to the brain. Furthermore, games, which require intense thinking or analyzing, would also serve as a platform for them to utilize and exercise their creativity. This is clearly seen in the game ‘IQ blockbusters’ where children are required to use their visual skills to solve a particular problem and if they cannot do so, they would not proceed to the next stage. Computer games provide cutting-edge 3D graphics while normal school work only provide a bland 2D view. As the saying goes: ‘All work but no play makes Jack a dull a boy’. It is linked to imagination, is it not?

However, Computers games do limit a child’s imagination to a certain extent -- children only need to ‘imagine’ as much as the creator of the game had intended them to. This would therefore limit the child’s ability to imagine and to perceive things in a different and more complex manner. It has been scientifically proven that an average child has a brain power at least 3 times that of an average adult. Thus I see no reason for a poorly created and unorganized game to limit the child’s mind. However, there are still good games out in the market made by highly intellectual people and as long as parents choose games wisely, games will not only entertain, but will also enrich and enhance learning experiences.

Computer games are common among the young minds of our society. They play a part in almost, if not all, of youths' lifestyles and are good source of relaxation and enjoyment. Computer games are helpful in stretching the ‘ever so large’ creative mind of our youth if used effectively and correctly. In conclusion, there will always be a computer game on the shelves from which a child will learn and gain. It is only a matter of whether one allows that opportunity to come into place.

MAJESTY [HERE I AM]

Delirious?

Here I am humbled by your majesty
Covered by your grace so free
Here I am, knowing I’m a sinful man
Covered by the blood of the Lamb

Now I’ve found the greatest love of all is mine
Since you laid down your life
The greatest sacrifice

Majesty, Majesty
Your grace has found me just as I am
Empty handed, but alive in your hands
Majesty, Majesty
Forever I am changed by your love
In the presence of your Majesty

Here I am humbled by the love that you give
Forgiven so that I can forgive
Here I stand, knowing that I’m your desire
Sanctified by glory and fire

Now I’ve found the greatest love of all is mine
Since you laid down your life
The greatest sacrifice

Really hope all my friends get to know jesus!
